Stepping up to the 10,000 Steps a Day Challenge šŸƒā€ā™€ļø

I (Rachel) started a challenge to walk 10,000 steps a day, every day in March 2021, and I was delighted to see so many clients and friends join in on the challenge. It was so successful that we decided to do it again this September.

We used a WhatsApp group as a way to keep us all accountable, it was super useful to post details of our walks, posts pictures of our step counts to try and motivate each other as much as we could. Personally seeing other hit their daily step count really motivated me to go that extra mile on the days I could just not be bothered.... I spent many evening watching Netflix and marching on the spot haha.

Based on the average personā€™s stride,10,000 steps is equal to 5 miles (or 8 km) or an hour and 40 minutes walking, depending on your stride length and walking speed.

So by the end of the month youā€™ll have pelted through 150 miles - about the distance from London to Manchester (or Paris to Brussels if you want to be all continental).

Ways to Hit 10K Steps a Day

  • Fitness Classes

  • Extra Dog Walks

  • Gardening

  • Pacing Whilst Doing Chores

  • Always Take the Stairs

  • More Leisure Walks

This 10K step challenge did more than help us improve our step count, it bought a bunch of strangers together during some really testing/hard times when we all just needed a bit of extra motivation and sense of community. I have personally learnt so much from doing this challenge with my friends and colleagues and I plan to do more challenges like this in the future. If you are reading this and have an idea for us PLEASE DO tell me! šŸ’œ

All the best
